Brick Cap Mushroom
This widely distributed fall mushroom, sometimes called the "brick cap," can be found growing in tight clusters on hardwood stumps and logs. It naturally grows in clusters on decaying hardwood logs and stumps during the fall, and is widely distributed in North America but more common east of the Rocky Mountains. Brick Cap mushrooms are a cold loving species that improve in taste as the year progresses. They can usually be found in the autumn months through winter, though they become less bitter generally after the first frost.
